"Have you noticed that everyone seems to have an opinion on heaven and hell? … about Jesus and God? … and about religion in general? It’s amazing how many different theories there are. You’ve probably heard the more common ones:- - “I’m basically a good person, so I’ll go to heaven” - “Only really bad people like child molesters and murderers go to hell” - “If God was a loving God, he wouldn’t send anyone to hell” If these theories are true and we are basically good people and we’re going to heaven anyway, then I’m confused about why Jesus thought that he had to die a painful death on a cross. Jesus viewed his death, and eventual resurrection, as important and essential for each and every one of us. That’s quite a drastic action, if, by the reckoning of the everyday person, it isn’t really necessary."
